I have heavily relied upon me to be under the large additional expense of my passage to Hongkong which amounted to over £300 as I have gained no increase of pay by the exchange, but on the contrary have sustained a pecuniary loss.
I hope the emolument of my Office in Sierra Leone, £820 per annum, compared to Hongkong, under £800, will be considered. The much greater expense of living further reduces the pecuniary value of the latter appointment compared with the former.
I left England under the belief that one third of the passage expenses to Hongkong would be refunded to me according to a certain scale laid down in the Colonial regulations, and I trust under the circumstances that my application for this allowance will meet with His Excellency's approval and recommendation.
